iPod Touch 5G Release Date

It looks like the iPod Touch 5G release date is now just around the corner and I'm sure that will come as refreshing news to iPod fans since it's been a strange year for Apple in terms of the reshuffling that has occurred with the iPod release date!

What has become Apple's typical MO for scheduled product releases of these popular mobile devices (iPhone included) has gone by the wayside this year. Even though it's not what we've come to expect, it shouldn't come as a big surprise since the evolution of technology in the mobile gadget arena has absolutely exploded.

Owning a smartphone and spending countless hours on Twitter and Facebook is no longer the exception, it's the rule. And, in developing competitive devices, Apple is clearly doing what they can to try and maintain front-runner status while keeping up with the pitfalls of obtaining the best hardware and being able to ensure their manufacturers can pull it all together in a timely fashion to meet the consumer demand. With that said, let's get to the details behind the new iPod release date!

According to the most recent reports making their way through the blogosphere, the iPod Touch 5G release date is slotted for the beginning of October with the launch to occur shortly thereafter (potentially alongside the new iPhone 5). However, before you get too excited, it does look like the new iPod Touch 5G will be lacking in any major updates.

According to MacRumors, the updates being made to the new iPod Touch 5G are expected to be minor in every aspect but one:

MacRumors has received information indicating that the next iPod touch revision will be a very minor change, with the primary addition being the introduction of a new white model. Only minor changes are expected for the existing hardware, with the addition of an oleophobic coating for the display and a revised ambient light sensor seemingly being the main differences. Otherwise, we expect the models to be nearly identical to the current fourth-generation iPod touch model.

If these rumors prove to be true, iPod fans (outside of those anxiously awaiting the white iPod Touch) are going to be sorely disappointed with the lack of "revolutionary" updates.

That being said, it shouldn't come as a big surprise that Apple is focusing their efforts on the iPhone (especially since they're looking to market a new iPhone 4 Plus this Fall that's supposed to be a new, affordably priced, iPhone to add to the product line). If we do see such a launch, the next generation iPod Touch and lower end iPhone will take one step closer to becoming one in the same device and (being pure speculation on my part) this may lead to a point in time when we'll see the iPod Touch phased out altogether!
