Samsung Nexus Prime Release Date

By

Rumor has it we're only days away from the Samsung Nexus Prime release date. At this point, it looks like the official joint unveiling of Google's next flagship smartphone will occur at the “Samsung Mobile Unpacked: Google Episode,” event in Hong Kong, scheduled for October 19, 2011.

If you're not familiar with the Samsung Nexus Prime, it's a collaborative software and hardware development effort between Google and Samsung. It's being touted as Google's next flagship smartphone for 2011. The successor to the Google Nexus S.

We'll take a look a closer look at the rumored specs of the new Nexus Prime in a moment (leaked pics and videos, too!), but it's widely anticipated to be a pure Google Android experience handset (no third-party software tweaks) poised to compete with the new iPhone 4S. In short, the new Nexus Prime is Google's baby!

What We Know About the Samsung Nexus Prime Release Date

To reiterate, it looks like the unveiling of the new Samsung Nexus Prime will occur this upcoming October 19, 2011, at 11:00AM, in Hong Kong. Here in the states, that means Android enthusiasts on the East Coast can tune in to a live blogging of the event at 10:00PM while those of us on the West Coast can do the same at 7:00PM! The actual Samsung Galaxy Nexus release date / launch is widely expected to happen at some point in the beginning of November 2011. We'll know for sure, shortly!

Rumored Nexus Prime Specs

The new Samsung Nexus Prime (also known as the Google Nexus Prime and Samsung Galaxy Nexus) is expected to pack quite a punch in a 9mm thin form factor.

Rumors are pointing towards a curved glass, 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED touch screen, distinctly absent of any physical hardware buttons.

Speculation originally pointed to a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor under the hood to power the new Android 4.0 operating system (Google's new Ice Cream Sandwich release). However, there's some speculation that a dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos processor (with a dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics chip) will be driving the handset.

In terms of camera and video support, it's widely anticipated that it will come with a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera with a 5 - 8 megapixel rear camera supporting 1080p HD video capabilities.

The battery is expected to range between 1,750mAh and 2,050mAh. Hopefully the latter, since the new Nexus Prime is headed for Verizon and will support their latest LTE radio technology. Originally, it was expected to be a Verizon Wireless exclusive, but it now looks like the Nexus Prime will also support CDMA and GSM radio chip-sets. If so, this will open the door to other wireless service providers being able to carry the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus. No doubt, AT&T would be a likely candidate!

Kootheancheah - me too! I think this new Samsung Galaxy Nexus / Google Nexus Prime will be the flagship Android smartphone for 2011 and will significantly improve upon the SGS II in terms of hardware and software enhancements.

Icciev - thank you!
